The Route 45 in central Pennsylvania that Joan Gordon discusses in her book The Road Taken: A journey in time down Pennsylvania Route 45, is also known as the Purple Heart Highway and spans about 100 miles from the town of Water Street, PA (a little west of State College, PA) to Mooresburg, PA (just east of Lewisburg, PA). Visitors to the route will find that it is populated by a number of bed-and-breakfast inns, shops, museums, and other attractions for those interested in history, a slower pace of life, and beautiful vistas of Pennsylvania's farm country. Amish horse drawn buggies also use this route so please be alert.
